John Ziegler of KHTS AM 1220’s “John and Leah Show” interviewed NFL Hall-Of-Famer Franco Harris, who stood by Paterno during the case, and Dottie Sandusky, Jerry Sandusky’s wife, who wanted to convince Ziegler that her husband is not who the media and everyone seemed to believe he was.

The 70-year-old Jerry Sandusky, longtime Penn State defensive coach, was found guilty of 45 counts of child sexual abuse in June 2012 and sentenced later that year to 30 to 60 years in prison. A subsequent bid for a retrial was denied, according to NBC News. He is serving his sentence at Pennsylvania’s SCI Greene “supermax” prison.

“Here I was, three years ago tonight, sitting in my wife’s condominium. We had just found out she was pregnant with out only child and I’m watching all of this explode in state college Pennsylvania,” Ziegler said. “This incredible career crumbling before our eyes, a legend being humiliated in front of the entire world, having his legacy destroyed within a couple days with his former assistant coach.

“The whole damn thing in my opinion was utterly full of crap.”

Ziegler also has a website called “The Framing of Joe Paterno” about the “incompetent, ratings-driven media, along with some self-serving politicians, all acted in their own perceived self interest to tell this story in a way not consistent with the facts, or even basic logic” and has been closely following the Sandusky case for years.

Franco Harris began his portion of the show by discussing how he felt the media began its narrative as soon as Paterno was fired, when some students went to his home and the media called it a “riot.”

Ziegler agreed by stating the event began a “false media narrative.”

“When I heard that Joe got fired, it hit me like a ton of bricks,” Harris said. “I felt like they (Penn State) were wimps and giving into pressure that they didn’t really have to do.”

Paterno died from complications with lung cancer just two months after being fired from the university, according to an NBC News article.

There was “so much misinformation out at the time and it’s a very sensitive subject and with everything involved and all of the things surrounding it make it bigger, and bigger and bigger,” Harris said.

Dottie Sandusky called in during the second hour of the “John and Leah Show” to do her very first live broadcast interview.

“It was a very sad day. There was no reason for Joe to be fired,” Dottie Sandusky said. “Jerry (Sandusky) worked for Joe for 30 years.”

Dottie Sandusky said she’d known her husband, Jerry Sandusky, for 49 years and never wavered in her belief that he did not commit the crimes for which he was convicted.

Penn State is very important to us,” Dottie Sandusky said. “There was no reason that should have happened. Jerry learned so much from Joe.”

Dottie Sandusky also discussed how her and Jerry Sandusky’s adopted son Matt Sandusky told media that he had “repressed memories” and “bedtime rituals” between Jerry Sandusky and himself.

“It is sad to see that Matt has chosen money over family,” Dottie Sandusky said.
