“Inside Knowledge with outside Perspective”

Tyler plans on giving teachers more control over their classrooms, continuing to build and modern schools throughout the valley, preserving educational funding and ensuring local control over those monies, and individualizing the education of each student. Through cooperation between teachers, administration, parents, students, and community members, education in Santa Clarita will see vast improvement. Over the next few months, Tyler will be meeting with school and community organizations, neighbor groups, and local students to set an agenda for bettering education in Santa Clarita.

Tyler Johnstone is a nineteen-year resident of Santa Clarita and a graduate of all local schools. He is currently working and continuing his education at University of California, Los Angeles. He has been active in numerous local committees and organizations throughout the valley including a Board Member of the SCV School and Business Alliance, Vice-Chair of the Measure V Committee Oversight Committee, the Community Ad-Hoc Sub-Committee on Racism and Diversity, and a member of the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Task Force. Tyler has long been an advocate of bettering education and ensuring that all students have the opportunity and the means to succeed.

Tyler has a record of improving the community through involvement in local organizations. He has been involved in fundraising campaigns for numerous local non-profits in addition to being very involved during his time in the Hart District. Before graduating from Saugus High School, he served on the Student Communication Council, which serves as the student advisory board to the Superintendent. Outside of the educational spectrum, his local involvement continued; Tyler was the Liaison for the City of Santa Clarita’s Youth Advisory Council, a member of the Character Counts Coalition, and a member of the community selection panel for Sheriff Captain Minutello.
