Junior Chefs Prepare to Cook Up a Savory Storm in the SCV

Little Chef & Teen Chef Cooking Camp is prepping to fix up a savory storm here in the Santa Clarita Valley. It’s a culinary camp that focusesLittle Chefson extracting the best out of your kids and teens with the guidance of highly professional, passionate chefs.

“At the age of seven years old, I started out in the kitchen watching chefs prepare meals at the Inter-Continental Hotel, Manila, Philippines and enjoyed what I saw,” said Louis Eguaras, Executive Chef and Founder of Presidential Culinary Services, Inc. “At thirteen, my mom taught my sister and I how to cook and be able to fend for ourselves and make dinner on our own or for the family as both my parents worked. At fifteen, I started working in a bar & grill close to my house as a dishwasher which lead me to be a line cook and lead line cook by the time I was a senior in high school. So, to me, cooking can start at an early age and really lead to a rewarding career in the culinary arts industry.”

From his experience, Eguaras has had a passion for cooking since a very young age and dreams of sharing his gift with young kids and teens of Santa Clarita.

“I started the cooking camp because I enjoyed cooking at a young age and know that many young chefs, given the right instruction, guidance, tools and direction, will be successful and at the same time, have fun in the kitchen like I did” said Eguaras. “I feel that ages seven to sixteen years of age is the perfect age to participate in cooking camps as they can grasp a lot of what is being taught and also have great experience already in group activities because many have already gone though Kindergarten or 1st grade. For the teen chefs, this is a great way to do what they love and make new friends for the summer.”

Working in smaller groups creates a one on one environment that makes it easier for the kids to understand what they’ve learned. And not only will they learn how to cook but they will also master the dangers of the kitchen and safety protocols to prepare kids to make smart and responsible decisions.

“One of the most memorable events was when we taught the young chefs how to grill! They loved it! We first discussed the safety and sanitation aspects of grilling and everyone got a chance to marinate their fish, meat or vegetables and then the young chefs learned how to make the grill marks and proper doneness of meats was shown to them. I could see how excited the young chefs were and many commented about their experiences with grilling with their family too. I truly enjoy seeing them happy and energetic in the kitchen.”

The Little Chefs and Teen Chefs Cooking Camp is a great learning experience for kids and teenagers of Santa Clarita to fully experience the fun of cooking.
