Stella, a 7-year-old cat from the Castaic Animal Shelter who wanted nothing more than to be held like a baby by volunteers, was adopted not long after taking the spotlight in the “KHTS Adopt a Pet” series in March.

“It was obvious she was terrified (at the shelter), but she let me take her out of her cage, where she was hiding under a towel, and she never extended her claws or fought — she just wanted love,” said Sharon, Stella’s adopter, in an email.

Describing Stella as a “scared and traumatized kitty” when she first brought her home, Sharon continued that the guest bedroom has become Stella’s “safe space,” and despite her initial fear, she would still come out from under the bed for pets and brushing from the very start.
“She is slowly coming out of her shell,” Sharon said. “She is now leaving her room to come out and explore, but she always checks to make sure the door is open and her room is still there.”
Stella now has a 1-year-old feline sibling, whom Sharon noted “worships” her, though she doesn’t seem very interested in him.
“The relationship between her and our 1-year-old is moving along,” Sharon said.

Surrendered to the shelter with another cat in March because their former owners were moving, Stella captured the hearts of shelter volunteers with her love of being held like a baby and cuddled.
“She’s just been a joy here and everyone loves her,” said Mary Jones, a volunteer at the Castaic Animal Shelter. “She’s very warm and loving, and she makes biscuits with her paws. She’s a good girl.”
About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series
Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase nearly 100 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 76 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert-Abramovitch, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
