After being saved from a hoarding situation by Animal Control officers earlier this month, a litter of unweaned 4-week-old kittens was in desperate need of a rescue group to take them in.

“They were infested with fleas, they were underweight, separated from their mother and they were sick,” said Melissa Lampert, co-founder of Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary. “So we decided to pull them from the shelter to give them the care that they need until they’re ready for their forever homes.”
After just one week in a M.A.P.S. foster home, the kittens, — now named Archer, Callie, Charlie and Einstein — are thriving.

“Since we’ve had the kittens, they’ve been doing so well,” Lampert said. “They are happy, they’re healthy, they’re growing, eating on their own — they get to be typical kittens.”
Callie, a short-haired female calico, is what Lampert called the perfect combination of sugar and spice.
“She loves to be held and carried around,” Lampert said, “but when it’s playtime, she can definitely keep up with her brothers.”
Einstein, a short-haired brown and white male, was the smallest and sickest of his siblings when Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary took them in, but has made a dramatic recovery.
“He seems determined not to accept the label of sickly runt — he’s proven to be tiny but mighty,” Lampert said. “He’s determined to be just one of the boys, and loves to wrestle and play, and also cuddle.”
The most mellow of the group is Archer, a long-haired black female who likes to “talk,” and has been known to sit and watch her foster parents, staring at them in adoration for ages.
By far the biggest “lovebug” of the litter is Charlie, a long-haired orange male with a somewhat lazy demeanor who is instantly filled with purrs whenever he gets to cuddle.
“He loves to play with his siblings,” Lampert said, “but he’s a bit of a couch potato as well.”
Lampert noted the ideal adopters for the kittens would be anyone who can give lots of playtime, attention and affection.
“They will all be spayed or neutered, up-to-date on their shots, microchipped, de-wormed and FeLV/FIV tested when they’re ready for adoption in a couple of weeks,” she said, “and we’re just looking for their perfect forever homes.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series
Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 40 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 30 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
