Mellow 2-year-old Beatriz missed her chance to be adopted at an Antelope Valley shelter after being incorrectly labelled as pregnant, and is now ready for her forever home at St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary.

“So many people wanted her (at the shelter),” said Megan Haselwood, a St. Bonnie’s adoption counselor. “They thought she was pregnant, so that instantly made her ‘rescue only,’ so no private person could adopt her… She sat there for almost a month.”KHTS Adopt a Pet - Beatriz

Now settling in at St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary after a vet confirmed via ultrasound that she is not pregnant, the siberian husky has shown how much she loves people and other dogs of all sizes, according to Haselwood.

“She’s not like other huskies — she doesn’t really have that prey drive,” Haselwood said. “She gets along with small dogs, big dogs… She was introduced to kittens and cats and she had no reaction.”

Haselwood noted Beatriz seems to be the perfect balance of affectionate and playful, and is just as happy to sit quietly and be pet as she is to run around with her canine friends.

“She is amazing,” Haselwood said. “She would be great in a household with people that have other dogs, that have kids… She’d be just the ideal family dog.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series

Once a month, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 100 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 88 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Melissa Lampert-Abramovitch, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
