Binx, Eva and Whiskey are growing up fast in their foster home after being brought to the Castaic Animal Shelter last month with their litters.

All their littermates were quickly adopted, but the trio was placed in foster care while they recovered from an upper respiratory infection, and they are now healthy and ready to be adopted at 4 and 5 months old.
“So many times people want the really itty bitty kittens, and then the older kittens like this … get overlooked,” said Larissa Barnes, a shelter volunteer and their foster mom. “They have so much personality and so much love to give.”

Barnes continued that Binx, Eva and Whiskey still have all the “kitten cuteness” of a 2-month-old but are a bit more mature, so they don’t require as much “work” by their adopters.
In addition, they have all already been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and their unique personalities have had time to shine.
Binx — a 4-month-old male with a white chest and paws — is the most cuddly of the group, and if he can’t find his human, will search the house “mewing” until he finds his companion and settles into their lap or on their shoulder.
Eva — Binx’s sister, a 4-month-old female with tufts of grey hair under her ears — also loves to get affection from her humans, but is the more playful of the two.
“The two littler ones are a little more clingy, so they very much like to be on someone’s lap, they love to sleep with someone,” said Barnes.
Whiskey — a 5-month-old sleek black kitten who quickly became a big “brother” to Binx and Eva — is the most independent, but will purr at the slightest touch and loves being around his fellow foster siblings.
“Whiskey is the kind of kitten that could be best friends with a dog, could be best friends with any cat,” Barnes said. “He literally wants companionship with someone to play with.”
All three kittens love to play with each other, the other dogs and cats in their foster home and their human foster sibling, Barnes’ young daughter.
“These three kittens have grown up in foster care with a family, … so I think they would love to have children in their life,” Barnes said. “These kitties really do love the companionship, so I think that if someone maybe had school-aged children or was a home a little bit more often and really wanted that playful companion, then these are the kittens for you.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series
Once a month, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 100 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen more than 90 adoptions so far. The series was created by Melissa Lampert-Abramovitch, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
