Tucked away in the cat building at the Castaic Animal Shelter is a free-roaming solarium filled with natural sunlight, enticing wall perches and hideaway kitty cubbies. The solarium’s three resident cats — Button, Willow and Panther — have been waiting for their forever homes for over a month, so the Features team stopped by to meet them in a special edition version of “KHTS Adopt a Pet.”

* Button (FREE to adopt)
Female gray tabby, 8 years old
Animal ID# A5076414
Button has been at the shelter for almost two months, and was surrendered with a feline sibling after their owner died. Her sibling was adopted, so Button is now completely alone.
Very shy and fearful now that she’s on her own, Button needs someone willing to be patient and give her time to adjust. Button feels safest inside her kitty cubby, and shows her sweet and affectionate side for those who go slow with her.
Already spayed, up to date on shots and FeLV/FIV negative, Button is ready to go home today.
* Willow (FREE to adopt)
Female domestic medium hair, 4 years old
Animal ID# A4512316
The youngest of the three, Willow was left at the shelter just before the July 4 holiday because her former owners said she wasn’t getting along with the other cats in the home. However, shelter staff noted Willow doesn’t seem to mind the other kitties in the solarium.
An independent little lady, Willow can be very affectionate and is also content to simply have company. Shelter staff described Willow as mellow and laidback, with a somewhat playful side at times.
Willow is spayed, up to date on shots and FeLV/FIV negative. She is ready to go home today.
* Phat Panther (FREE to adopt)
- UPDATE: Phat Panther has been adopted!
Male domestic medium hair, 6 years old
Animal ID# A5082707
Panther is the most outgoing of the solarium cats, and wants to be the center of attention when someone walks in the room. He loves to be with people, be held and get lots of love.
Incredibly vocal and talkative, Panther came to the shelter as a stray, and has a unique streak of silver fur on one side.
Already neutered, up to date on shots and FeLV/FIV negative, Phat Panther is ready to go home today.

Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 40 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 30 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
