One year ago this week, the “KHTS Adopt a Pet” series featured a senior orange tabby named Odin in need of a forever home, and the now 17-year-old cat is still waiting to be adopted.

Odin was surrendered to the Lancaster Animal Shelter when he was 16 years old, the very same day his former owner died.
The stress of the shelter environment quickly became too much for the mellow senior, and he became sick and therefore at an even higher risk of being euthanized at the crowded shelter.
But Furever Purr Rescue decided to save Odin’s life, pulling him from the shelter and placing him in a foster home where he could get the medical care he needed in a quiet, stress-free environment.

“He really was just in his cat bed for the first couple days,” said Kelly Kacmar, Odin’s foster, in her KHTS Adopt a Pet interview one year ago. “But I think just getting him to feel better and showing him that he was in a good home and that he was out of the shelter and he didn’t need to worry anymore — he really came out of his shell and was happy to just be loved again.”
Odin has long since recovered, and is still in good health at 17 years old. He has become a lap cat who also enjoys lying on his foster family’s tummies, and gives his dog brother affectionate head butts from time to time.
The mellow senior loves to follow his foster family around, and tends to keep purring even after someone stops petting him.
His favorite room in the house is the kitchen, where he can watch all his own food — along with his dog brother and human foster family’s food — get prepared.
“He’s that laidback kind of personality that I think a lot of people look for in a cat,” Kacmar said. “He just loves standing next to you being petted, and he doesn’t need a lot of toys or fancy cat condos or anything like that — he’s just really content being in a safe and happy environment.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series
Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 40 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 30 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
