Brought to the shelter as a stray last month, Elvis was named for what volunteers thought was jet black fur, but turned out to be a unique blend of black and brown in the sunlight.KHTS Adopt A Pet - Elvis

“When we got him out in the sun, he’s got this beautiful sort of mink coat with brown shimmers — it’s just gorgeous,” said Renee Focht, a shelter volunteer. “You really have to meet him to appreciate how beautiful he is.”

Elvis knows how to sit and even give his paw for a shake on command, and while he can be playful when volunteers throw a tennis ball, Elvis is overall a mellow and quiet dog.

“He’s playful, but he’s mellow. He’s well-behaved, he’s kind of quiet,” Focht said. “Elvis is good with other dogs… He’s an all-around good dog.”

Focht continued, “I think Elvis would do well in just about any home. He is mellow but he also likes to go for walks and he likes to play a little bit, so I think he could adapt to just about any family.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series

Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase nearly 100 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 76 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Melissa Lampert-Abramovitch, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
