Known as a “rockstar” in doggie play groups at the Castaic Animal Shelter, 7-year-old pit mix Muneca is a volunteer favorite for her calm demeanor but playful personality.

“Muneca means ‘doll,’ and she is our little doll here at Castaic Animal Shelter,” said Kyle Harris, senior volunteer. “She was originally surrendered to another shelter and came as a transfer to Castaic because she’s so good at play groups. We needed her to be a leader in our play groups.”
When she isn’t leading doggie play groups at the shelter, Muneca impresses volunteers by following basic commands like “sit” and “come” in both English and Spanish.

She also loves to splash around in the shelter’s wading pool on hot days, and has been known to get the “zoomies” around the play yard after chasing a ball with volunteers.
“Muneca’s energy level is probably a low to medium level, where she is a very calm and quiet dog, but she does play,” Harris said. “She walks on-leash, she sits, she comes, she likes to play ball, and she is just an all around good dog.”
Muneca’s former owners said she spent most of her time outside, so shelter volunteers are looking forward to the pup getting to enjoy the luxuries of being an inside dog in her forever home.
Describing Muneca as a “very easy” dog, Harris continued, “The ideal adopter for Muneca would be a family, I think. Someone who would pay attention to her and let her be a house dog and let her be spoiled.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series
Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase nearly 100 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 76 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
