The three- to four-month-old kitten was transferred to Castaic from the Lancaster Animal Shelter and placed in foster care while she recovered from an upper respiratory infection with her siblings.KHTS Adopt a Pet - Pippa

“When she first came into foster care, of course she was shy — she probably hadn’t had that much human interaction,” said Larissa Barnes, Pippa’s foster mom. “But after a couple of doses of antibiotics and lots of love, she’s become very gregarious and very outgoing.”

Pippa is a foster favorite of Barnes’ 11-year-old daughter and her friends, and will “help” the kids do their homework, climb into bed to cuddle at night and purr for ages.

“(My daughter’s) friends come over, and as soon as they walk in the door — ‘We need to go see her!’” Barnes said with a laugh. “She’ll just play with this hoard of children for hours and be very, very happy about it. She loves attention.”

Because Pippa has been in foster care for some time while she got healthy, she’s not only used to lots of children running around, but other kittens, cats and dogs too.

“She’s very, very social; she could get along with anyone and everything,” Barnes said, adding that anyone interested in adopting two kittens could take in Pippa and one of her friends. “I think that she’d love to be in a family where there’s other animals to play with.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series

Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 40 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 30 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
