The “KHTS Adopt a Pet” series is celebrating its two-year anniversary this month, with 84 of the 98 total pets featured so far adopted into their “forever” homes.

First launched as “KHTS Adoptable Pet of the Week” on Aug. 10, 2016, the video feature series tells the stories of dogs and cats in need of homes at rescue organizations and shelters across the Santa Clarita Valley.
“We started the series two years ago to help raise awareness about the importance of adoption, to offer support to the hardworking shelter and rescue workers in our community, and most importantly, to help get as many homeless animals adopted as possible,” said Melissa Lampert-Abramovitch, the series’ creator and coordinator.

Over the last two years, Lampert-Abramovitch and the KHTS Adopt a Pet team have visited the county-run Castaic Animal Shelter, St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary in Canyon Country, Shelter Hope Pet Shop Santa Clarita and many more to meet animals in need and tell their stories.
Through videos and articles published on the KHTS website and shared on social media, the faces of nearly 100 rescue and shelter pets — some with special needs — that may have gone unnoticed otherwise have reached the animal lovers of the Santa Clarita community and beyond.
The most far-reaching spotlight by far was that of a blind pitbull named Nikova, whose story garnered national attention after it was picked up by IHeartDogs.com, ending in an out-of-state adopter travelling to Santa Clarita from Arizona so she could take home her new best friend.

“Nikova spent three quarters of her life with Tails and Scales Animal Rescue after being saved from the shelter, and could certainly be called a ‘hard-to-place’ dog after she had her eyes removed due to glaucoma,” Lampert-Abramovitch said. “We had no idea she would become an instant internet sensation, and are so happy to be part of her adoption story.”
Lampert-Abramovitch continued, “By telling the stories of cats and dogs like Nikova, we’re able to help get them adopted into the loving forever homes they deserve while also enabling the shelter and rescues to save even more lives. It’s a great feeling to be a part of that, and we’re so grateful for the community’s support of the series and everyone who has saved a life by choosing adoption.”
About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series
Every other Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase nearly 100 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 84 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Melissa Lampert-Abramovitch, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
