Curious miniature schnauzer Prince from Saving Little Strays loves to be near all kinds of other animals — from dogs and cats to birds and guinea pigs.

After spending the last few weeks at the rescue in Agua Dulce, 10-year-old Prince has become best friends with a cat named Steven and seems to have a soft spot for a pair of rescued guinea pigs, too.
“He loves cats,” said Robert Guerue, Saving Little Strays’ vice president and “Meet and Greet” coordinator. “He just follows Steven everywhere, gets along great with all the dogs … and he just sits there sometimes by the guinea pigs and just watches them. It’s really, really something to see.”

Prince was surrendered to the Palmdale Animal Shelter with his sister, Royal, earlier this month before the pair caught the eye of Saving Little Strays Rescue. Both had some minor health issues at the time, are now fully healthy and ready to find their forever homes.
Though he’s a senior, Prince still has lots of energy and loves to play, with birdwatching topping his list of favorite things to do. Guerue said the pup follows him everywhere, and like many rescues, seems to know his life was saved when Saving Little Strays pulled him from the shelter.
When asked who Prince’s ideal adopters would be, Guerue replied, “He’ll be great with anybody. We would like to see (Prince and Royal) go together (but) we just want them all to find homes.”
About the Adoption Process at Saving Little Strays Rescue
The rescue dogs at Saving Little Strays Rescue are all spayed or neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and dewormed.
The adoption fee, which helps the rescue cover these types of veterinary expenses, ranges depending on the dog’s age. For puppies over four months old and adult dogs, the fee is $350, with seniors like Prince set at $200 and puppies at $400.
Fees are tax deductible and include a harness and leash, toys, food, training if needed, and a Petsmart coupon book containing over $400 in savings.
Potential adopters can contact the rescue to set up a “meet and greet” and home check, or stop by the Petsmart on Pico Canyon Road in Stevenson Ranch on certain weekends for the rescue’s adoption days.
