KHTS Launches Text Message Traffic Alerts

KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown radio station, will now be providing free text message traffic alerts.

The alerts will be sent out to cell phones when a major traffic incident is clogging a local thoroughfare. Only areas important to Santa Clarita residents will be included. Local surface streets, Interstate 5 and Highway 14 will be focused on for these alerts, however the northern section of the 405 will also be monitored during peak commuter hours.

“We’ve had such great success with our email alerts, and we wanted to take it one step further,” said Carl Goldman, co-owner of KHTS AM-1220. “Now we’re taking information and making it mobile, so people can actually get important traffic notifications when they need it the most.”

To subscribe to this free service, interested parties just have to text SCVTRAFFIC to 41411, which will automatically subscribe them to the program.

While participating in the program is free, users must be aware that standard text message rates apply. Users will also be able to unsubscribe at any time from a prompt in each message.

In order to be responsible with the text message alerts, only the major traffic incidents will be included in the program, with extra weight given to events that occur in peak traffic times.

Detours will also be included in every Santa Clarita Traffic Alert to help motorists plan around the major SigAlerts and congestion.
