Coming down the home stretch, organizers have added more events, prizes and vendors to the fourth annual KHTS Santa Clarita Home and Garden Show and Emergency Expo at the Hyatt Regency Valencia Conference Center on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28.

“A lot of things are happening right now,” said Gary Buterbaugh, whose company, Santa Clarita-based High Impact Event Resources, is producing both events. “Three more companies are joining the show – DirecTV, Aquacor flooring and EZ Billiards.”

Blood drive; tomato plant giveaway added

A blood drive has been added to the Emergency Expo’s events on Saturday. “It’s for Kaiser-Permanente, and we’re going for 50 donations,” Buterbaugh said.

A tomato plant giveaway will now kick off the Home and Garden Show’s “Plant Mania” sell-off on Sunday.

“Starting at 1 p.m., we’ll be giving away free tomato plants while supplies last,” he said. “Then the nurseries participating in the show will be giving super discounts on all the plants they have left, because they don’t want to take them back to the nursery.

“We’re also getting some fabulous PassPort prizes, and the grand prize is a $300-plus patio set,” he said.

People who attend will be given a “PassPort” card when they enter. “The passport has 20 squares with an exhibitor’s name in each square,” Buterbaugh said. “The idea of the game is that the attendee must go to each one of those exhibitors’ booths and get their passport stamped. Then when their passport is all stamped up, they write their name and contact info on the back, and turn it in at the passport desk, and it becomes an entry into the drawings.”

There are as many prizes as exhibitors on the passport, and that the prizes are worth $50 or more, he said. “One of the exhibitors is providing a prize worth more than $500, and that’s a reverse osmosis water system including installation from SC Water Conditioning.”

City of Santa Clarita seeks engagement

The City of Santa Clarita will have three booths, including one focusing on emergency preparedness where residents can take a short quiz and find out how to become better prepared.

“Our mission is really education,” said Donna Nuzzi, emergency services supervisor for the City of Santa Clarita. “We really want to get as many people to the booth and spend time with them and really talk about their preparedness and be engaged. That’s why we’re doing the quiz.  It’s three questions, three different types of quizzes, and the whole idea is to engage people and talk about what they’re doing. And once people take the quiz, they have a chance to win a prize. So that’s truly what we want, is engagement with the people.”

This year’s KHTS Home and Garden Show is sponsored by the Southland Regional Association of Realtors, Valencia Kia and Home Depot, and the Emergency Expo by the city, Henry Mayo, The Gas Company, American Medical Response and KHTS.

Parking and admission are free for both the Home and Garden Show and the Emergency Expo.
