The Domestic Violence Center is looking to bolster the spirit with stickers being given away that also say, “Kindness Happens.”

“When we were thinking about what we could do (to remind the community of all the positivity that exists),” said Linda Davies, executive director of the Santa Clarita Valley Domestic Violence Center, “we wanted to really make a simple statement that could involve the community.”

Davies and her staff were inspired by the recent Las Vegas shooting massacre, which had a devastating impact on numerous Santa Clarita families, to remind their neighbors of all the good in the world.

The recent outpouring of revelations regarding sexual assaults and misconduct in the aftermath of the New York Times’ story on Harvey Weinstein have also been troubling.

The idea was just to send a “gentle message,” she added.

“It’s just basically saying it’s the simplest thing that we can do to each other, in the midst of everything going on around us,” Davies said, before asking rhetorically, “‘Can we just do this?’”

The bumper stickers are going to be given away at the Domestic Violence Center’s Purple Walk on Saturday, or DVC supporters can pick them up from the DVC office, which is located at the Savia Community Center.

DVC staff put the message on bumper stickers, and the concept has been well received so far, Davies said.

KHTS AM-1220 also is giving away the “Kindness Happens” bumper stickers at its studio on Main Street.

“Linda Davies and her staff at the Domestic Violence Center provide an invaluable service to the community,” said Jeri Seratti Goldman, co-owner of KHTS AM-1220, which is also supporting the campaign. “This is another great example of how the Domestic Violence Center constantly tries to bring positive energy to the Santa Clarita Valley.”
