La Mesa Update: Pepsi Tests Finds No Contamination At Aquafina

Thursday afternoon six students from La Mesa Jr. High School were sent to the hospital after drinking bottled Aquafina water from the school vending machines.

[view:node_ad=5]Only one student claimed to feel slightly nauseous, which prompted five others to come forward and claim that the water they drank tasted abnormal.

All six students were examined at nearby hospitals and released with a clean bill of health.

The source and specific cause of the contamination is under investigation at this time; however Pepsi, who owns Aquafina, says that they have yet to find any contamination at their bottling site.

The company issued the following statement:

As always, the health and safety of our consumers is our overriding concern. All of our plants have rigorous quality-control standards in place, and we are thoroughly confident in the safety of our products.

There is absolutely no evidence that today’s incident was caused by anything in our manufacturing process. We have examined and tasted numerous bottles that were produced at the same time as those in this case and have found them to be free of any problems whatsoever.

The only products in question have been those that were previously opened, and we are working closely with local authorities to determine exactly what happened.  We are also running our own independent tests and we have no reason to believe this is anything but an isolated incident.

As a precaution Aquafina products that came in the same batch as the items in question are still being held from the retail cycle at all Hart District schools pending the result of FBI and Sheriff’s Dept. investigations.
