District Attorney Steve Cooley today named Jacquelyn Lacey as Chief Deputy District Attorney, effective April 4.
Lacey is currently one of three Assistant District Attorneys, the No. 3 position in an office of almost 1,000 prosecutors.
She takes over the No. 2 post from current Chief Deputy John K. Spillane, who will assume the duties of Head Deputy District Attorney of the San Fernando Branch Office.

“Ms. Lacey is a 25-year veteran of the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office who has been in management for the past 10 years,” said Cooley. “She has extensive experience in all operational aspects and possesses a wealth of knowledge, experience and innovative ideas. She is a seasoned trial lawyer who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and a deep commitment to ensuring that LADA prosecutors receive the training, professional development and support that they deserve.
“I look forward to working with Jackie in her new position,” the District Attorney added.
“Mr. Spillane has been an outstanding Chief Deputy for this office for the past five years,” Cooley said. “His valuable counsel has strengthened and bettered the District Attorney’s Office, helping it move forward in many arenas.”
