“I wish all at The Signal and The Signal itself much success,” Lamont said. “I came to love this paper and the Santa Clarita Valley community, so a piece of me will always remain in the SCV and at The Signal.”

Newspapers are under revenue pressures and need leadership able to fully commit to the process. Lamont could not currently make this full commitment, and thus both sides agreed to an amicable parting.

While the resignation is effective immediately, Lamont will be available for consultation throughout the transition to new leadership.

“Ian Lamont joined The Signal at a critical time. We are grateful for his and his team’s contributions to the business and we wish him well in whatever he chooses to do in the future,” Morris said.

The Signal plans to explore a full range of options as it considers a successor. Morris Thomas, current director of operations, has been asked to serve as interim publisher.

The Signal is a more than 90-year-old daily newspaper that is the leader for news and information in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Lamont started in newspapers in 1975 and has 16 years of daily newspaper publishing experience. He has held publisher and senior management positions in Long Beach, Oakland, Fresno, and Tri-Cities, Washington.
