Lancaster Man In Custody After Two-County Pursuit

khts_crime_chpA Lancaster man is in custody after leading law enforcement on a long pursuit that boggled traffic on the southbound I-5 and northbound 14 freeways and ended near the Placerita Canyon Road offramp Tuesday afternoon.

Robert Walsh, 47, was arrested in Newhall after using his vehicle as a weapon up in the  Bakersfield area earlier in the day. Sgt. Rick Miler of the California Highway Patrol told KHTS that Walsh had rammed several big rigs with his car in the Kern County city before fleeing south.

CHP units from the Grapevine scales attempted to stop him, but he failed to yield and continued south on the I-5. Newhall CHP units picked up the pursuit at the 138 and followed him at speeds of around 50 MPH while he continued southbound. As he neared the northbound 14, an officer was able to reach Walsh on his cell phone and reported that he was incoherent.

The officer was able to talk Walsh into pulling over at Placerita Canyon Road and he was arrested without incident. He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and was transported to Kern County for booking.
