Landscaping Helps Ease Fire Pain

oakridgefrontyardOne local home is getting some help to finally put the Buckweed fire behind them.

With the Buckweed fire fading from memory, the City of Santa Clarita’s Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program stepped in to put some final touches on the renewal of one fire victim’s Canyon Country home.

The Michaelis’ home was destroyed in the October 2007 fire and has since been rebuilt, but the family is still negotiating with their insurance company and the landscaping remained to be done.

“The landscaping makes a huge difference on your state of being, but we have had our hands tied because of insurance hang-ups,” said Tracy Michaelis.

Oakridge Landscaping brought their trucks, crew and supplies to the Michaelis’ home today to help the family bring their lawn up to city standards.

The company will be donating a new lawn, planters, trees and shrubs, as well as installing a new sprinkler system for the front yard.

“We are very happy to have been invited to participate in the City’s Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program.  This is an amazing program that helps those in need in our community and Oakridge is honored to be a part of it,” said Jeff Myers, President of Oakridge Landscaping and a Santa Clarita resident.oakridgesign

“What an absolute blessing it is to have such professional people to be willing to send over workers to lift a burden for us and bring us joy,” said Michaelis.

The home is located on the 27000 block of Camp Plenty Road and is part of the City’s Extreme Neighborhood Makeover area.

The Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program is a proactive code enforcement effort in various neighborhoods, aiming to improve the overall look of residential areas of the city.
