Passenger bus, ranch truck among vehicles with punctured tires.
Ten vehicles on the campus of Los Angeles Retarded Citizens Ranch were vandalized early Saturday morning.
Kathleen Sturkey, executive director of the facility reported that sometime before 1:45 a.m. Saturday, the tires were punctured on several fleet vehicles, including the ranch bus, which is essential should the residents need to evacuate the premises.
“There were no witnesses that we know of,” Sturkey said. “But whoever did this knew the vehicles and how important they were. Maybe it was a disgruntled employee, who knows?”
Sturkey said that this incident was the first of its kind on the ranch. She said the timing of the incident was determined because two vehicles returning from an outing to
returned at 1:45 a.m. and went out the next morning without any problems.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do,” Sturkey said. A local tire vendor has replaced the punctured tires, but the facilities board of directors will have to consider some tighter security measures at tomorrow’s meeting and perhaps a reward. “Do you put up surveillance cameras? We just don’t know.”
