To help cover the costs of their residential facility and day programs, LARC staff are hosting a “Sunday in the Park with LARC” carnival fundraiser on September 29 at their campus in Saugus, on Bouquet Canyon Road, past Vasquez Canyon Road.
“Each year, we strive to keep the ‘fun’ in fundraiser, and let our supporters know how much we appreciate them with an afternoon of great food, games, music and a family friendly party atmosphere,” said Kathy Sturkey, LARC Ranch executive director. “This year’s ‘Sunday in the Park’ will be just that–a relaxing and fun afternoon with friends and family, with the proceeds benefitting LARC’s services for developmentally disabled adults.”
The event begins at 1 p.m. with carnival games and great food and dessert from vendors, including Jamba Juice, In-N-Out Burger, Layne’s Catering and Tart Boy. DJ Bino Bates will provide music for the dance floor.
Guests will also get to interact with members of the residential program and see the facility they are helping to support.
More than 400 people have attended in the past, and donations cover the gap in expenses not covered by the room and board paid by residents, Sturkey said. They are also currently raising money to equip their building with solar panels.
In addition to running a fully-staffed residential campus equipped with 13 homes, LARC offers developmental classes and job skills training, including language development, social skills, how to use public transportation and appropriate workplace behavior.
Members of the LARC program also participate in Special Olympics, and volunteer to raise money for other nonprofits, such as the Painted Turtle Camp in Lake Hughes and for U.S. troops deployed overseas.
“The beautiful thing about our people is they know they have special needs, but they live life to the fullest,” Sturkey said. “They truly embrace life and live it well, despite their mental or physical disabilities. They make us better people…”
Tickets to “Sunday in the Park with LARC” are $125 per adult and $50 per child or $325 for a family pack of four. For reservations and additional information call 661-296-8636, ext. 219 or visit LARC Ranch on Facebook.
