One year after the Las Vegas Shooting, the Santa Clarita community is coming together to remember the ones lost during the deadliest shooting in U.S. history.

On Oct. 1, 2017, a gunman killed 58 people attending the Route 91 Festival in Las Vegas, including Santa Clarita resident John Phippen.
A 58-second moment of silence is planned on KHTS Radio, and stations across the country, at 10:05 a.m. to remember the 58 lives lost in the massacre.

In addition to the moment of silence, a special two-hour broadcast is planned with grief recovery specialist Sharon Brubaker and Alex Urbina to process the year after the shooting.
“We want to check-in with everyone to see how they have been doing over this past year,” Brubaker said. “There has been so much discussion about guns, we want to check-in with the hearts of the people that actually were there.”
The broadcast is set for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1 on KHTS Radio AM 1220 and FM 98.1. The radio show is also expected to be streamed on Facebook Live.

The Las Vegas Shooting killed 58 people and injured hundreds more, including at least 14 people from the Santa Clarita Valley.
The community rallied behind these survivors, raising thousands of dollars through several events and fundraisers.
“It has affected many people across the world and right here in Santa Clarita,” Urbina said. “Whether it affected you directly or someone you know, please join us.”
