“I’m doing okay,” she said. “I took the day off work (from Meadows Elementary School) because I am trying to process and decompress a lot.”

She noted that when the shooting began at the country music concert on the Las Vegas strip, she was about 30 rows back from the stage in a cluster of people.

Her instinct was to hit the ground, and every time she tried to run, People’s said she felt like she had to get down again to avoid gunfire.

After running for what she estimated to be about a mile, she arrived at Hooters Hotel free from any gunshot wounds, but with a burn on her leg from shrapnel.

Peoples laid down in the hallway for the next seven hours, helping about 40 people charge their phones with the cable she happened to have on her.

When she was there, Peoples said she met a young woman who couldn’t find her boyfriend, and as of today, she still can’t find him.

“We became really close in those seven hours,” said Peoples. “Her boyfriend suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and still has not been found.”

Now that Peoples is home safe, she says she visited her pastor at Real Life Church to talk about her experience and attempt to comprehend what happened.

  1. Kim, we live in Castaic and my daughter was there too. She ran to Hooters to take cover. She was in the freezer for almost an hour for safety. Were you in there also? So glad you are okay.

    • I was not in the freezer, but in a hallway near the restroom in the lobby of Hooters Casino. I am so sorry that your daughter also went through this… it was scary

  2. My husband and I were there we were about 10yrd from the stage on mad bay side. There was no moving it was a dog pile I wanted to run to the other side of the stage and hide but had to wait in the dog pile while people finally moved. No one seemed to be going over that 4 foot fence. When we finally got there my husband pushed my butt over it. We made it to the side of the stage there. But because of rumors of multiple shooters and car bombs. We pushed on to sundance helecopter place. They had every one in the parking lot come in. I felt very safe it was like fort knox concrete walls and steel doors. They were so nice to us I just would like to thank them someday.
