Doctors determined Susie LaPorte will be transferred to a new room as soon as a bed opens up.

LaPorte was taken off her ventilator earlier this week, and was eating pureed foods and standing up on Thursday, even able to walk a few steps for the first time since she was shot.

Family members said LaPorte’s pain has also gone down, but she still has weakness in her arms.

Doctors determined last week that it would be best not to remove the bullets from LaPorte’s gunshot wounds, meaning she will not need surgery.

In addition to being hit multiple times with gunfire, LaPorte also sustained fluid in her lungs and broke her shoulder during the incident.

As of Friday afternoon, there was no new information on when LaPorte may return to Santa Clarita.
