One minute till midnight Thursday, April 15 is the deadline to file your state and federal income taxes. To accommodate filers, the United States Postal Service will have extended hours on Thursday to help taxpayers get their paperwork filed in time.
The nearest location to have extended hours is the Van Nuys postal office located at 5701 Sherman Way. The office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 11:58 p.m. on April 15.
April 15 is also the deadline to file for an extension the federal due date (IRS Form 4868). The IRS could apply late fees or interest even if an extension is granted and may require part of the expected tax to be paid along with the extension application.
The Postal Service wants to remind filers that the post offices will not have any tax forms available. A checklist to help filers prepare their taxes can be found here.
