The City of Santa Clarita started the first of 12 large concrete pours for the Golden Valley Road Bridge, the final link in the Cross Valley Connector, this morning at 4 a.m.
Crews are expected to continue the pour until 2 p.m. 700 cubic yards of concrete will be poured for the first of four sections on the left, northbound side of the Golden Valley Road Bridge.
The next step involves repeating the same pour process on the first of four sections on the right, southbound side of the bridge. This process will continue until the pour is completed on all eight sections of the bridge.
“The concrete pour is the beginning pour of the superstructure for the Golden Valley Road Bridge and once it is completed, the City will begin to pour the remaining four sections, for the top section, or ‘deck,’ on the bridge, which is the final phase in the construction process,” said Mayor Frank Ferry.
The Golden Valley Road Bridge is scheduled for completion in March 2010. The 8 ½ mile Cross Valley Connector is the City’s major road project to ease traffic valley-wide through the seamless connection of Newhall Ranch Road and Golden Valley Road. The Connector will also provide a direct connection between the I-5/SR-126 and the SR-14/Golden Valley Interchange.
