Church of Latter-Day Saints tries to offer some relief for fire victims in Santa Clarita
The SCV Disaster Coalition has been working since the Santa Clarita wildfires to raise money for local fire victims. They have been accepting donations from the community, and recently, from a religious community that extends much further than our city limits.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has donated a check to the Disaster Coalition for $12,500. This money was raised across the Church’s area, through what is called a fast offering. “We’re asked to fast the first Sunday of the month and donate the cost of those meals to be used for humanitarian efforts,” said Melanie Devorak, a Church representative. She was joined in presenting the check by fellow Church member David Cook.
The donation comes from the Church as a whole, although LDS has a significant membership base in Santa Clarita.
