Little Caesars promised during the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, March Madness, if a No. 16 seeded team were to beat a No.1 seeded team that the restaurant would give free lunch combos on April 2. No. 16 seeds had lost their previous 135 games to No. 1s since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore Country (UMBC) made history and were able to beat the No. 1 seeded University of Virginia, becoming the first ever in the tournament’s history to beat a No.1 seed as a No. 16 seed.
The unexpected did happen, so when asked, what’s for lunch? The answer could be, “pizza pizza.”
The lunch combo is set to include four slices of deep dish pepperoni pizza and a 20-ounce drink.
Free lunch is set to be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
