Local Advertising Professionals Honored at ADDYs

The suspense finally ended Sunday night for local advertising professionals who entered the first-ever local ADDY® Awards. Twelve winners took home Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in 23 categories as the Advertising Professionals of North Los Angeles County (AdPros) announced the results of the contest during a dinner held at Hyatt Valencia. All of us in the design field work so hard behind the scenes, so it’s nice to be rewarded for our efforts,” said Best of Show winner Chris Macabitas, who serves as in-house creative director at Marzochi Performance Suspension Systems. Macabitas also won a Bronze for Marzocchi’s “Face the Future Ad,” and a Gold for the company’s poster promoting its 2007 line.

AdPros is an affiliate chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), which administers the ADDY® Awards, considered the world’s largest and arguably toughest advertising competition.  Each AAF chapter administers a local awards program and the winners advance to one of 14 regional competitions.  Regional winners move on to the national/international finals.

Joe Bui, of Joe Bui Art Direction and Fish Tank Maintenance was honored with Best Art Direction for his Honda Dealer Convention Announcement.  The piece also received a Gold.  Bui won another Gold, a Silver, and two Bronzes, making him the night’s big winner after taking home six awards.  Other winners included: Huerta Quorum, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Long Advertising, Jacobs Creative Design, JF Design, Media Well Done, Joe Viescas, McGregor Shott, Inc., Watters Edge Design, United Online, Inc., and the Sherwood Group.

Formed in January, AdPros is among the newest of the AAF’s 210 local affiliate chapters. “We’re the premier professional organization for anyone involved with creating, buying or selling advertising,” said AdPros President Gary Jacobs, who serves as Creative Director of Jacobs Creative Design.  “That includes graphic designers, photographers, printers, ad reps, agency staffers, in-house creative teams, media buyers, copywriters, direct mail companies or any other job that’s connected to the industry.” “The awards alert the business community about the extraordinary and dedicated firms who can help them grow their businesses,”

Although AdPros is new to Santa Clarita, its members are not.  Formerly known as the Graphic Arts Professionals (GAP), they were affiliated for the last 15 years with International Association of Printing House Craftsmen – the Graphic Professionals Resource Network, a group focused on printing services.  But the GAP members dropped that affiliation and instead aligned themselves with AAF to better reflect the services they offer.  The Group meets at noon on the third Friday of every month at Salt Creek Grille. Visitors are always welcome.
