Local Artists Will Participate In Benefit Concert For The Gulf

Oil_Spill_2Beginning in late May, the largest offshore spill in US history began off the Gulf of Mexico. According to BP estimates, before the wellhead was recently capped, 35,000 to 60,000 barrels of crude oil gushed from it daily, causing devastation to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and its coastal shoreline.

Newhall-based record company, GB Records has decided to step forward and take action to help relief efforts.

On September 10, GB Records is holding a benefit concert featuring some local performers at the House of Blues in New Orleans, benefiting organizations dedicated to the cause, such as the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana.

The Coalition is a non profit organization dedicated to restoring the shores and has recently taken on the role to do its best to protect the animals from the oil spill and try to keep the water clean.

GB Records alongside the Commercial Fisherman’s Association have teamed up with this organization to hold this benefit concert where performers include Grammy-nominated band, Fastball, surf-rock guitarist Dick Dale, actress and folk singer and Hart High graduate, Shay Astar, “Reba” star and singer songwriter, Scarlett Pomers, bass playing legend, Tim Bogert, and local chart-topping band, The McGrath Project.

“Let’s all put politics, egos, and pride aside and do what’s best for the nation.” said Gary McGrath, CEO of GB Records. “I don’t care whose fault it is, I don’t care who wasn’t watching their shift, it just needs to be cleaned and dealt with.”

Tickets will be available for purchase in late July.
