Local Boxers Win In Desert Showdown

SCV continues it’s hot streak in boxing

[view:node_ad=5]Five local boxers from the City’s Santa Clarita Community Center Boxing program were crowned champions at the 6th annual Desert Showdown Boxing Tournament held in Coachella, California, on July 11 to July 14, 2007, which crowned five local boxers champions.

Championship belts were awarded to local tournament victors Erick Arreola, 19, Ruben Orona, 14, Daniel Nolasco, 13, and Coaches Juan “Superman” Jimenez, and Arthur “Chico” Magaña.

Eight amateur boxers and three coaches, ranging in age from 10 to 48, competed in the prestigious USA boxing tournament, which drew more than 500 of the best amateur boxers from around the nation.

“All of the competitors showcased their skills and proudly represented the Santa Clarita Boxing Program, which earned the honor of being the most successful boxing program in the tournament,” commented Efren Galindo, City Community Center Coordinator.
