Local Choir’s Carnegie Hall Performance In Jeopardy Due To Funding

A group of students have the opportunity of a lifetime, if they can raise enough money.

Members of the Valencia High School Choir have been invited to perform at the world famous Carnegie Hall in New York. Normally, such an honor is a rarity amongst high schoolers, and the school has jumped at the chance.

While most people in this position would be concerned about the performance, Valencia’s choir is stuck on a problem much further up the line; they have no money.

With ASB funds dried up and the Choir’s purse strings tight, the group has planned a holiday boutique for this Saturday, November 21. They’re inviting the public to join them for some holiday shopping at the boutique, and the money raised will go to the choir.

Over 50 vendors have already staked their claim on various booths; the sale will include everything from fashion to woodworks as well as food and live music.

The boutique runs Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Valencia High School Gym at 27801 N. Dickason Dr. in Valencia.

If the Choir is successful in raising the funds, they will travel to Carnegie Hall in April of 2010 to open Phil Mattson Jazz Night.

“It’s a big opportunity because the ones that sing solos and the ones that will be in the smaller performing groups…it’s a huge honor to be on the stage where so many wonderful musicians have played,” said Choir Director Christine Enns.

Vendors interested in participating should contact Christine Enns at vhsboutique@gmail.com.
