In April 2011, Arlene Morse, co-owner of “My Sister’s Caramel Crunch,” started making her younger sister Lisa’s beloved Caramel Crunch recipe after Lisa was diagnosed with pancreatitis in 2005 and staying at a care facility.

“When she got ill, I thought if I can get this recipe out in the public and begin to sell it maybe people can start praying for her and hope for a miracle,” said Morse.

In November 2011, the Morse family experienced the untimely loss of Lisa. However, keeping the family business in tact was a priority for the Morse family.

“The episode with Lisa knocked our family back and it was very difficult to experience, but we wanted to keep up the business to honor how positive and beautiful Lisa was,” said Jeff Morse, Lisa’s nephew and co-owner of “My Sister’s Caramel Crunch.”

“We wanted to make the business a beautiful reflection of her and so it was a no-brainer to keep continuing it. Having her face on the logo and making her recipe… it really does feel like old times and like she’s still with us,” he said.

The business has shown success with an expanding customer base ranging from actor Seth Green to Emmy-nominated writer Hugh Sterbakov.

“Everybody’s loving her recipe and we’re having fun getting her story out. We get compliments all the time,” said Arlene Morse. “Lisa wanted to get this recipe out in the market, so being able to do something she would’ve loved to be apart of is very rewarding.”

The Caramel Crunch treat comes in two different varieties, classic pecan and the nut-free blueberry. Many have tried to identify key to the secret recipe that Lisa created.

“Everyone would ask Lisa for the recipe and she refused to tell anyone but her sisters,” said Arlene Morse. “It always gets compliments! We hope to keep expanding and adding new varieties.”

The Morse family sells their “My Sister’s Caramel Crunch” treat on Sundays at the Studio City Farmer’s market and online.
