Miss United States Pageant deadline looming

Hope Morrice will compete in the Miss United States pageant if she can raise enough money by August 10th.

Hope Morrice, a twenty-two year old Santa Clarita Valley resident is looking forward to her chance at competing for the title of Miss United States; the only thing standing in her way is a lack of sponsorships.

Morrice is no stranger to pageants, having won local accolades starting in 2002, when she first competed in the Miss Teen Canyon Country pageant. She first learned about that pageant through an advertisement, and figured that there could be multiple benefits.

“I thought it would be a great way to learn to be more outgoing and to earn money for college,” she commented.

Since then, Hope Morrice has been crowned Miss Junior Santa Clarita Valley, and was named 1st runner up for the Miss Junior California pageant in 2003.

While Morrice has found much success on the pageant stage so far, her success in the classroom has propelled her as well. During high school she was concurrently enrolled in college courses, which allowed her to graduate a year early with an Associates of Science Degree in Biological and Physical Sciences.

The life of a pageant title holder is often filled with many hours of community service, of which Morrice has tallied over 500. Some of the non-profits she’s volunteered for include The American Red Cross, City of Hope    and the Single Mothers’ Outreach Program.

This year, however the stakes have become even higher, as she was named Miss Congeniality, and won the title of Nevada state queen for the Miss United States pageant to be held in North Carolina.

The Miss United States pageant is set to take place August 23rd through the 25th. The deadline for Morrice to raise money for her lodging and entry fees was originally August 1st, however so far she has had to push it back to August 10th because she has not met her financial requirements. Now, she is hoping the community can rally a little bit of help to give her a shot at a potentially life changing competition.

“I participate in pageants because it builds character, strength, and morals, as well as allows me to connect with the community in a way greater than most 22 year olds do,” Morrice commented. “I have made great connections and friendships which I know will last a lifetime. I am currently 22 years old, living in and originally from Santa Clarita, and if I were to win I would earn scholarships as well as a variety of opportunities to travel the US to help those less fortunate than I.”

If you would like to become a sponsor for Hope Morrice as she heads for the Miss United States pageant, you can contact her directly at Hmorrice@hotmail.com. You can also contact KHTS AM-1220 for information.

Should Morrice be able to raise the funds to participate in the Miss United States pageant, she will compete in the following;

Swim Suit (for fitness), Evening Wear (for poise and elegance), Fashion wear (for personality), interview (public speaking and character) and community service.
