For the second year in a row, the SCV lifeguards take the gold at the 15th Annual Lifeguard Competition.
The 15th Annual Lifeguard Competition was sponsored by the Southern California Public Pool Operators Association (SCPPOA), and took place on Sunday, July 29th at the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Aquatic Facility.
Cities competed in 20 different events including, swim-run-swim, 200 yard freestyle relay, dummy tow relay, and individual 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle. This is the seventh win for the Santa Clarita lifeguard team.
The 30 member Santa Clarita team competed against 12 other Southern California agencies, with more than 250 of its fastest lifeguards. Santa Clarita placed first among teams from Los Angeles County including the cities of Los Angeles, City of Lakewood, Pico Rivera, Alhambra, Santa Monica, Ventura, Culver City, Manhattan Beach, and Carson.
“Santa Clarita lifeguards are trained to be swift and safe both on the job and in competition,” said Doug Botton, Aquatics Administrator for the City of Santa Clarita. “They work hard as individuals and as a team and it is an honor to be recognized for the second consecutive year as the Southern California Lifeguard Champions.”
