Pilates for Healthy Bodies with Karena Thek Lineback, distributed by American Public Television, features expert Pilates tips, holistic nutritional advice, and commentary from Pilates practitioners who explain the health benefits of the practice.
Developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, this simple form of exercise is suitable for all ages, genders, and fitness levels. Originally used as a method of rehabilitation during World War I for bedridden soldiers, Pilates is the perfect exercise to safely strengthen and build lean muscle. The practice, once referred to as “controlology”—or, the control over one’s body—is ideal for those suffering from osteoporosis, weak knees, back pain, and a variety of other ailments. There is no need for pricey equipment; to start, all you need is the desire to achieve a healthier and more re-vitalized body.
In the show, Lineback guides viewers through the principals of Pilates: breathing, concentration, flexibility, core, and fluidity. These fundamentals are the backbone of an exercise program that not only tones the body but also calms the mind. Common daily activities become easier as flexibility and muscle strength develop.
