Santa Clarita sculptor Idelle Okman Tyzbir will hold a reception for her sculpture exhibit at the Arts On Main Gallery, from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. Friday, February 18. There will be live jazz, wine and light fare. The exhibit will run from January 29 – February 28.
“My work is very physical. Each sculpture begins with a wrestling match. In the end the sculpture and I become partners, each giving and taking, contributing our unique strengths and differences. I would be pleased for you to experience the results,” said Tyzbir, who is a local artist and teacher.

Flowing organic movement contrasted with structured elements, abstract shapes, variations in textures and mediums are emphasized in Tyzbir’s work. The visualization of music is a strong component in many of her pieces. Her major influences have been Alexander Calder, Wassily Kandinsky and Joan Miro. Elements of Abstract Expressionism and Constructivism can be found in her non-objective abstract sculptures.
Tyzbir uses a variety of metals, acrylic paint, glass and other materials to enhance meaning and give depth to her sculptures. Textures are integral to the messages being conveyed. Welding processes and metal forming are utilized in the creation of her sculptures. Tyzbir is academically trained in art and design, though she continues to be primarily self-taught. This has allowed her the independence and freedom to develop her own style.
