Event brought in mothers from around the country with one Mother of the Year being named.
Myrna Condie, a Santa Clarita resident, recently ventured to Portland, Oregon to take part in the 2009 American Mothers National Convention.
Condie had been named California Mother of the Year, and was one of 50 finalists for U.S. Mother of the Year.
Moms from every corner of the country participated in a variety of activities, including individual speeches and gift exchanges.
At the end of the convention, the title of Mother of the Year was given to Betty Jean Ulmer McGregor of South Carolina.
While Condie didn’t take home the top title, she said that the highlight of the 5-day event was meeting all of the other mothers.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know people on a nationwide basis who share common values,” she said. “You could see why each one had been chosen [for their respective state titles].”
Myrna Condie is a longtime SCV volunteers, sitting on the Santa Clarita Valley Boys and Girls Club Foundation board of directors as well as the College of the Canyons Foundation board. She is married to Gary Condie, a local CPA.
