Looking Back At The SCV’s Top Stories From 2012, Part II

With the end of one year and the ushering in of another, KHTS takes time to look back at a few of the top stories from the last 12 months.

In case you missed something, here’s a few of the highlights or, in some cases, lowlights, from 2012 in the Santa Clarita Valley, from a local officials questioning a public-transit plan that could endanger the Santa Clarita Valley to the story of how Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon garnered his 11th term in office.

Year In Review 2012: Locals Question High-Speed Rail Plan:

Recently termed out Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, county Supervisor MIchael Antonovich and City Council members joined a chorus of voices assailing a plan to bring the state’s controversial high-speed rail plan through the Santa Clarita Valley.

Year In Review 2012: CLWA Purchases Valencia Water Co. From Newhall Land:

In fulfillment of a plan to consolidate as much of the Santa Clarita Valley’s water-supply management under one roof as possible, Castaic Lake Water Agency officials agreed to buy the Valencia Water Company from Newhall Land & Farming Co. in December, spending approximately $58 million, not including debt and refinancing obligations.

Wrapping up one of the more contentious races during his 20-year tenure in the House of Representatives, Howard “Buck” McKeon beat Democratic challenger Lee Rogers with 55.2 percent of the vote in the 25th Congressional District race.
