The proposed Val Verde Community Regional Park Pool Renovation Project is for general pool improvements at Val Verde Park, including removal of the “obsolete” existing Tot Pool and upgrades to the existing recreation pool, according to the Board of Supervisors agenda.
The county officials submitted a grant proposal of $300,000, which has not been approved, yet, said Andre Herndon, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation.
The agenda item is requesting the supervisors to approve the matching funds of about $100,000, bringing the total cost of the project estimated at $400,000.
There is currently no date set for the grant approval, Herndon said.
The agenda item states the approval of the recommended actions will allocate an amount not to exceed $260,000 for improvements to three existing county parks.
The other parks expected to be improved include the Apollo Community Regional Park in Lancaster and the Stephen Sorensen Park in Lake Los Angeles, according to the agenda item.
Department of Parks and Recreation officials are asking the Supervisors for $60,000 for the Apollo Community Regional Park and $100,000 for the Stephen Sorensen Park.
The Val Verde Community Regional Park Pool Renovation Project is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act because the project involves the removal of structures and rehabilitation of deteriorated or damaged structures, facilities or mechanical equipment to meet current standards of public health and safety, according to the agenda.
