A 90-year old Los Angeles
man was killed Saturday morning when he was walking near traffic on the
northbound I-5 freeway near Gorman.
The man, whose identity was not released pending
notification of next of kin, was initially driving a dark-colored Mercedes the
wrong way in the northbound lanes of the freeway just south of State Route 138.
According to a CHP report, he turned his vehicle around and was rear-ended by a
red-colored Chevy Impala.
The victim stopped on the right shoulder of the
northbound lanes and, for an unknown reason, got out of his car and started
walking westbound across northbound traffic lanes. He was struck by a GMC van
driven by Juan Zaragoza of Pacoima.
Fire department personnel declared the victim dead at the
scene. A Sig Alert was issued for four lanes of the northbound lanes for
approximately three hours, until the coroner could recover the body. The
accident remains under investigation.
