Love Ride For Autism Returns To Castaic Lake

love rideAfter a 4-year absence, Love Ride is returning to Castaic.

On October 23 Jay Leno will once again lead motorcyclists on Love Ride 2011 from Glendale to Castaic Lake in the country’s largest motorcycle ride-for-charity.

This year, Love Ride will benefit Autism Speaks, the nations largest autism science and advocacy organization. Since 1984 the ride has resulted in more than $13 million in donations for children’s charities.

Oliver Shokouh, the founder of Love Ride, said in a press release the ride is an exceptional event that does not fit one single label.

“Love Ride is truly unique because it’s not just entertainment for charity,” Shokouh said. “It’s a full-immersion experience that lets people participate in a way that raises the spirit of giving to high levels, mainly because it feels so good.”

Love Ride was last in Castaic in 2006 and was moved to Pomona in 2007 and 2008. In 2009 the ride was cancelled and replaced with a small event at the Glendale Harley dealership because of the burden the economic downturn had placed on Love Ride sponsors. The ride returned in 2010 when and it was held at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu.

According to the Susan Harrison, the Public Information Officer for Love Ride, the ride has returned to Castaic this year in place of other choices in order to meet popular demand for the attractive lake location.

“We’ve heard a lot of positive information from people about their experience at Castaic,” Harrison said. “We wanted to return because Castaic seems like the place where people want to be. It’s a beautiful location. All the nature, grass, and shade trees provide the things people like to do when they listen to a concert.”

Love Ride will have its fair share of entertainment. Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry, the country music duo, both ride Harleys and will be performing at the Castaic venue. Celebrity appearances are another regular occurrence at Love Ride. Along with Jay Leno, high profile figures such as Peter Fonda, Robert Patrick, Lorenzo Lamas, Larry Hagman and Willie G. Davidson are expected to attend this year’s charity event.

Gourmet food vendors, motorcycle stunt shows, a variety of souvenir shops, and a bike show will also be available throughout the day.

Harrison said Love Ride is not limited to Harley-Davidson enthusiasts, or even motorcycle enthusiasts.

“Whether you ride or not it’s a great event to come out to,” Harrison said. “It’s open to everyone, not just bikers. The biking aspect is of course the roots of the event but it is really an event to raise money for autism and everyone is welcome.”

All types of motorcycles are welcome on the ride, and those who do not own a motorcycle are invited to join in on the festivities at Castaic Lake.

Parking for the event will be free for that day.

Registration forms are available in person at Glendale Harley Davidson in Glendale or online at the dealership’s website.
