Magic Mountain Holds Back Debut Of Mr. Six Coaster

sixflags_redtowerConstruction delays have set back the debut of “Mr. Six’s DanceCoaster,” a family-friendly ride originally scheduled to open this summer at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

The coaster frame has been delivered from its former home in a closed New Orleans park, where it was operated under the name “Road Runner Express.” The tracks are steel, measuring 679 feet long with a 28-foot lift hill, and will take riders at speeds of up to 21 miles an hour.

“This is a ride that’s come in from one of our other properties,” explained park President Jay Thomas. “We’ve repainted and re-themed it and when we were looking at the location where we were going to put it, it posed some additional challenges we were going to have to face.”

In it’s new incarnation, the coaster will feature eight cars built to look like Mr. Six’s dance shoes, and riders will sit two across in a single row for a total of 16 riders for the just under one minute ride duration. Colors for the new coaster are in keeping with Mr. Six’s formal attire of black, white and red.

The coaster will be one of the more gentle ones in the park’s collection; even though it is tentativesly slated to cozy up to the harrowing “Terminator Salvation: The Ride,” this ride is a little slower and easier on the bumps and drops. “Mr. Six’s DanceCoaster” is now slated to open in 2011.

Thomas said that the Memorial Day weekend was busy at the park despite the coaster’s delayed debut, noting that a lot of kids and adults alike found respite from the heat in the new “Mr. Six’s Splash Island” family water play area at Hurricane Harbor. He also said that Matt Hoffman Danger-Defying Daredevil show made its celebrated return to Magic Mountain, featuring motocross bikes, skateboards, inline skates and other extreme sport demonstrations.
