The City of Santa Clarita is currently exploring the option of changing the street name of Magic Mountain Parkway, east of Interstate 5, and Creekside Road to reflect more auto-related names. The request came from the Santa Clarita Auto Dealers Association in hopes of increasing auto sales as well as visibility of the Auto Mall from Interstate 5 by increasing exposure to potential regional customers who might drive to Santa Clarita to purchase vehicles. The potential increase in auto sales is expected to generate more sales tax revenue for the City to use for community benefit. “The City of Santa Clarita strives to promote a business-friendly community that supports local business and responds to their needs. The street name changes will benefit local auto dealers, but the City anticipates that overall sales dollars and patron traffic will increase in correspondence with sales tax revenue to the City. The City can then use those funds for the betterment of the community to build new parks, maintain roads and much more,” commented Paul Brotzman, City of Santa Clarita Director of Community Development.
Though the Auto Dealers Association requested the name changes, the City is responsible for making any final decisions about the name changes. The City is currently in the process of exploring the many potential benefits, and resident and business impacts associated with the changes. City staff anticipates taking the issue to the City Council in March, 2007 for review.
To help inform residents and the business community about procedures surrounding the potential name changes, the City will be conducting two community meetings to answer questions and field comments brought-forth by residents and businesses that may be directly affected. Community meetings are scheduled at the following locations dates and times:
