If you’re looking for a way to make a difference, there are a number of upcoming volunteer opportunities in the Santa Clarita Valley through the end of summer and into fall.

On Saturday, August 17, the Santa Clarita Sports Complex is hosting a Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assist with sports and healthy lifestyle activities.
The River Rally on Saturday, September 21 from 8 to 11 a.m., is an annual event to preserve the Santa Clara river, a natural habitat and one of the last two natural river systems remaining in Southern California. Volunteers will clean litter out of the riverbed, and will be provided with gloves, collection bags and refreshments. Participants younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
For the first time in the Santa Clarita Valley, residents have the opportunity to honor veterans in a unique way through the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall. The wall arrives on Thursday, September 26 and will remain at Westfield Valencia Town Center until, Sunday, September 29, open 24 hours a day.
Adult volunteers are needed in four-hour shifts to help with traffic control, pet sitting, computer kiosks, veteran to veteran counseling and reading the names aloud.
The annual Santa Clarita Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, November 3, starting at 7 a.m. Course marshals are needed to make sure the runners follow the route, distribute water, assist at the finish line and help with crowd control.
