Man and Woman of the YearThey each are donating the proceeds from the awards banquet in May to the nonprofit organizations that nominated them for the honor.

Hopp donated $1,000 to the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer. She has held various positions on the organization’s Board of Directors, chaired committees, worked tirelessly and provided insight to this successful nonprofit organization.

The Michael Hoefflin Foundation seeks to provide hope, help and healing to families affected by pediatric cancer, through medical research, awareness and outreach programs.

Man and Woman of the Year“I got involved with them several years ago when they asked me to do some financial analysis on people that were seeking grants from the organization–people whose children had pediatric cancers,” Hopp said. “That’s when I realized the financial challenges, as well as the emotional challenges that the whole family faces when they have a child with cancer.”

Sturgeon donated $500 to the Child and Family Center and $500 to the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club.

The Child and Family Center is dedicated to providing mental health, behavioral and education services to children, adults and families to help build a healthy community.

Man and Woman of the YearThe Rotary Club is a network of volunteers that reach out to neighbors in need by building, supporting and organizing in a local and global capacity.

Sturgeon has been involved in Rotary clubs in Los Angeles County and around the world on and off since 1975, even becoming Rotary President for his local club for a time.

“I originally joined rotary in 1975 and I served for 10 years down in the Encino Rotary Club as well,” Sturgeon said. “So, I’ve been engaged with the Rotary organization over time… and what they stand for, in terms of bringing peace and understanding around the world. It’s the largest international non profit organization that there is.”

Sturgeon put Rotary on hold while raising his children, but he was still involved with the community, support multiple non-profits including the Child and Family Center, which he has served with for 12 years.
