UPDATE: As of 10:30 a.m., no arrest had been made and no additional information was being released.

A man was shot in the head while driving his pickup truck on Newhall Avenue near Pine Street on Thursday night, a sheriff’s official said.

Lt. Joe Efflandt of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said the victim, identified only as a Hispanic male in his 20s, is in stable condition after being struck by a bullet.

The shooting occurred at 10:27 p.m. COBRA deputies were still investigating the incident during the wee hours of Friday morning. No arrests had been made as of 1:30 a.m., Efflandt said.

The source of the gunfire is not yet known – at least not publicly – but it is not believed to have been a car-to-car shooting. Also unknown is the type of gun, and whether multiple shots were fired. The victim was struck only once. The investigation is in its early stages.
